Probably another scam call centre trying to con money out of people. If they're not trying to sell government subsidised energy conservation schemes they're claiming to be Microsoft technical people protecting you're internet service. They never give up and there appears to be no end to the number of scammers joining in the new game.

I have just had a call from that number. Is very simple! I always wait for the phone to stop ringing. After a few minutes, I do 1471 to see who rang. If I recognize the number, I ring back.. That way I don't get involved with any scammers. So, my phone bill is higher, but so is my peace of mind

This is a Scam. The Indian guy on the phone will tell you that they have a refund cheque from a UK bank to be issued to you. He will already know your name and address details but will try to get other personal details from you. The action to take is to terminate the call without giving any personal information. The call should then be reported to Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 , providing them with as much information as you can.”

Another Scammer
They called 5th may 2014. Got my surname wrong and explained in a very strong Asian accent that he was called David James Smith and that he was "authorised to refund extroneous charges" on my bank account. Told him no one of that name lived here so he asked me my name, told him to go away and never ring here again. Reported it to TPS and BT but as we all know that is a waste of time and effort, as long as they pay their phone bill the phone companies couldn't care less who abuses their customers.

He said what my name was and when I said no that's incorrect he told me to go away and put the phone down on me!! I knew it must be a scam as nobody just sends you money!! I did 1471 and tried to call the number back but it said number not recognised. If they call again I will be ready for them!!!

This is undoubtedly an attempt at fraud. If you gave away any personal details the least you should do is tell your bank and also probably wise to get a personal credit report from a Credit reference agency.

Second time I answered and the only thing the guy said was a repeatedly hello, so I put down the phone. Seconds later they called again, so I picked up and just said a loud what. Guy asked me then if I am depth. Told him to call someone else if ge wants to sell something and hung up. Those calks really should be prohibited. All in all I had six of them today.

Received a call from an Indian/Pakistani man - same thing - claiming he has a cheque made out to me just needs by details - he already had my name, address and telephone number obviously, but said he needed to know which I bank I would use to bank the cheque. Told him just send me the cheque you don't need to know where I will bank it. Line went dead, he called back a few seconds later saying he needs to know which bank I will use. I gave him the name of a bank I don't use and he told me his records show I have not used that bank for a long time! I told him I did not want to pursue this call as I thought it a fraudulent call - guess what - he hung up!! Don't answer calls from this number people -stay safe!!

These people are hideous. My mother has become quite upset with them and eventually said 'if you have anything to say - put it in writing ..' The woman at the end of the phone said she would continue to " call, call, call, call, call, call" - which the are doing on a regular basis to the point that everytime my mother picks up the phone to an incoming call she doesn't speak until she is happy it is 'not them'. Can TPS sort this out or not? It is driving her to distraction.

They call and if you have caller display this number appears on your phone. If you ignore the call or put the phone down and then redial that number, the system tells you that the number is not recognised. How can the caller leave a number that is not valid ? It is obviously a scam to con you into giving useful information but how do they manipulate the phone system in this way ?

I received a series of calls yesterday from this number promising a cheque for refund of standing orders paid to a bank - all very vague, man with Indian accent, had my name and address, asked me to "confirm" my date of birth, when I refused and said it sounded like a scam, became abusive, and left a series of increasingly abusive messages, some in such a strong accent that they were totally incomprehensible. If I ever get a similar call, I'm tempted to give yesterday's date as my date of birth and if queried, say that's obviously when they think I was born!

SCAM BEWARE
I have had a few calls today, stating that the banks owe me money. So I went along with the call. Didn't give out my DOB as they apparently had all the relevant details. Why ask for my age? I haven't done anything as they asked for a payment of £230 to be made within half an hour by moneygram transfer at a post office for an agent to come round to my house and give me a cheque for £3495... That's virtually impossible as I have already claimed back all my PPI! Second time they called my husband answered and the hung up. He 1471 the number and then googled it... Well here we are. Just so you are aware, anything that does moneygram transfers should not be trusted as they are not recorded nor refundable. The police cant trace it and the post office have no control over it so you will always lose out. Don't fall victim to this scam. If you can, block the number. Save your money.

Claims Management UK...
... is who he said he was from, rang four times in ten days, again told me he was "working with the Ministry of Justice" to get me my bank charges refunded for overdrafts. When I said I hadn't had any, he tried saying it was charges for my debit card (??) at interest rates of 15% which are "hidden". He had previously told my husband it was a refund of PPI. The number he gave me to ring to "confirm" who he was, is 01274 792325 and said I should speak to his manager, Shaun Hopkins. I have reported him to the Fraud Action line. I was the fourth person to ring about these scammers today. Evidently they will ask you to pay 10% of whatever they said you are being refunded, as a charge for the courier, or for the solicitor they will "appoint for you". Obviously, there is no refund, ever.

Just can't believe telecoms cant do anything
So the inbound number is spoofing the number it is calling from the same way your bank may contact you with a reply number being different from the outbound number. All they need to do is have a register of such numbers in order to allow them.

I said nothing to confirm my details, I just started asking him who he was, He said he was calling from bank, I said, they don't do that so your not from Bank. He said " who said I'm from bank." I said you did just now. Then he said he's from Government. I said no your not, they don't do this. I then said he was calling a registered number which he should not be calling. I heard him talking to someone else. I then asked him his name and he hung up.

02043095294 DO NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS
we have just had one of these calls, my dad answered and apparently they just hung up, he read the number out to me and I typed in In google and I came across this site, what I am guessing they are doing is that if your a woman/ more likely an older woman, they try to get your details, and keep taunting you as I have read previously, but if you are a man/ a mature man they just hang up, I wish I would've picked up the phone because I would've give them a piece of my mind, scum bags, if you get one of these calls, if they call you again, just say you know a policeman and they will probably hang up, or even better, because I will be wasting their phone bill, just put it aside, listen music, turn up the volume, and let them just babble to themselves, eventually they will get the message :) be safe everyone :)

Had a call from an Asian sounding man, who started the conversation by asking how I was etc... He said I was owed money by my Bank, I said I wasn't owed money And thanked him for the call ( a big mistake!) and rang off. A few minutes later the phone rang again which I didn't answer, then again and this time he left a very abusive and vitriolic message. It is about time that something is done about these low life people who pester, sometimes elderly vulnerable people. Similar stories to above and have been rung a few times over the last few days by Paul Harris and colleagues, yeah who are you kidding with those accents. Decided to 'play along' as fed up of all these type of calls (usually just put phone down). Had my name and full address. Just wanted my DOB, gave false one, and my bank, again false information given. Hey presto, next call 'my' bank are refunding £3000+. Nice eh! Alex Robinson will call with cheque and I need to get a Moneygram for £250. They don't do this work for free you know!! At this point I terminated call telling them words to the effect of 'do you think I'm stupid'! Thing was for 2 hours I was then worried a Mr Robinson would come knocking. Had the Police number handy and decided not the best idea I'd had. Get rid of these people!!
