Beware
Had a call from this number claiming to be from Barclays Bank Fraud Team wanting to verify some suspicious transactions which they said had appeared on my account. They were fishing for my online banking details - very cleverly. They were very plausible and persistent but after contacting Barclays directly myself, they confirmed the call as a scam. My number is ex-directory but these people knew my name and where I banked. Have no dealings with them, they are crooks.

Scam Barclays site
Scam/phishing banking site claiming to be Barclays Bank. Latest scam is to say they are putting you on paperless statements and if you don't want this to happen "click the button below". DO NOT CLICK THE BUTTON. Forward any emails to internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk. Another scam site is -barclays.co.uk/ContactUs/Contactus/P1242558040150 - this uses/quotes same phone number- 08009247365

Scam - without a doubt.
Just had a call on my mobile asking to speak to the husband, explained he was at work and could I help as it is joint account. English speaking (not foreign at all) said that it was only Mr x she could speak to and she needed a number to contact him. I would not give her it and said I would be contact my bank myself. Upon calling I spoke to Premier Banking and then fraud who have confirmed this is not a Barclays Number. The advice given is always to call a trusted Barclays number (not the one they come through on) and check. Never give passcodes, long numbers, dob etc.

I've just had a call from this number claiming to be Barclays Premier Banking and they wanted to update me on some offers they had, they just needed my mothers maiden name. I told him I wasn't going to give him that information and he said - very pushy, that he had to make sure I was who I said I was! When I pointed out he'd rung me he said anyone could have answered the phone. He had a very strong Geordie accent and was in what sounded like a very busy call centre. He asked me being even more pushy again and I refused. He then said I must have seen the recent adverts on the tv where Barclays say they'll never ring and ask for passwords etc, but he was a different arm to the bank and he needed it. When I told him I was now ending the call he got really shirty with me. I just hung up. Be warned - they're after your internet login details.

Just taken a call from this number at 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon. Always suspicious and the individual was argumentative and not accepting that I did not want to continue the call - most unbarclays like. Tried all angles to make me feel guilty for not continuing. Checked this number afterwards to confirm that my suspicions were well founded.

Same Again
Said they were calling from Barclays Premier, knew my name on the account (which is different from the name I am known as and use on the internet....so a little worrying). As soon as they asked for mothers maiden name, put phone down on them. The death penalty should be brought back for these scum of the earth scammers.......well, maybe that's a bit harsh, so put in prision and throw away the key...........apart from wasting everyones time, there are always going to be those who are vunerable and get caught out.

Barclays number can be used for fraud It's not that simple. This number is printed on the back of my Premier Banking debit card so you would assume it is Barclays when that number appears on your phone. Someone tried to get info from me pretending to be Barclays in fact, they told me to read the number on my card and check that it was the same number when they called me back on my mobile, which it was. When I told Barclays fraud team about this they said, yes, the fraudsters are clever and can show their number when, in fact, they are calling from somewhere else. Be careful ....

Beware the fake website when Googling this number
Just had a missed call, Googled the number and the 2nd result was home.barclays/contact/gb/premier-banking. Barclays websites do not use home.barclays. as a URL. You only have to scroll to the bottom of the page and see the mish-mash of different fonts and sizes to see this is a scam page. I work in web development and spotted it straight away. Barclays spend millions on their web development and will have strict set of rules on page layouts and fonts and this is clearly not within those. Do not call the number back.

But the scammers are able to use a false number...the number from Barclays in this instance. Yes, you can call that number back, and yes you will most probably get through to the Barclays Premier Team...but I can nigh on guarantee you that none of the people sitting there in that room will know anything about a phone call to you in the previous few minutes.

The number is Barclays Premier but....
On receiving a call I didn't answer it but called Barclays Premier myself from the landline and spoke to my account manager who said there was absolutely nothing on the notepad to say anyone had called me and there was no reason to do so. She did say any Barclays outgoing calls come up as an unknown number anyway so wouldn't have been them. So yes, it is their number as per the back of the debit card and their legit website but not actually them.

SCAM, definitely
Received a call at 5pm on a Friday saying Barclays wanted to review with me the rewards on premier account. He eventually asked me for my mother's maiden name and my dob to confirm he was speaking to the right person. I declined, he assured me the tel number cld be found on the website or on my card, however, he slipped up when he mentioned the make of my phone, how would Barclays know the make of my phone? Also, he started to stutter and did not seem professional. Beware!

Mystifying
Similarly rung from the same number but had missed call. After reading this forum, rang a geographic number for Barclays and told by agent that no record of call or any reason for it. She surmised that is may have been a routine courtesy call (if genuine).

They are at it again
Received a call from this number at 5.15pm today. I never answer calls which do not show a caller id from my contacts list, as I presume if it were a legit call then they would leave a message: they didn't. Checking this website confirmed my suspicions. Scammers are the scum of the earth.

Be careful
I have had two missed calls from this number. Having recently been the victim of various online transactions going out from my account I would say that the fact the number is on the back of my card and on their website means nothing. During the process for the bank to contact me with regards to the various scammer transactions I actually received a text message to my phone stating that the bank wished to call me and that I would receive another text with a code and time for the call (verified by the bank as I was sitting in the local branch at the time speaking to the fraud department on the banks telephone), the call came up as anonymous when it came through so I would be wary of answering this number. If they have your card details it would be very easy to obtain the telephone number from the rear when obtaining your three digit security code.

It’s safe, it’s from Barclays
I had 3 calls on my mobile. Checked online and it says Barclays. It’s the same number as on the back of my banking card. I called and they confirmed they had tried to contact me to check I’m ok as I’ve just setup online banking. I went through the security checks and it’s definitely Barclays.

Also coming to an email address near you soon
Thanks for your comments about this number. I had an email purporting to be from Barclays about a new Direct Debit I'd set up. If it's OK, leave it. If you don't recognise it, ring this number. The whole email looked plausible, but I didn't trust it. Googled the number and came across this site. Beware there are sophisticated fraudsters out there.

I was wrong. I check it out with Barclays. The number is legit. The email was about a direct debit set up by a utility company using a new provider. Their systems fouled up, so the DD is a ghost entry, but not active. Barclays were most helpful.
