microsoft edge security alert or scam?
Microsoft security alert page opens on computer and freezes all activity unless phone number is rung. Does anyone know if this is a scam. It can be removed without calling anyone so be careful.

Unwanted Caller
"0808 099 6746" called and was quite persistent when I said they were to submit their request in writing and that they did not have authorisation to call me. Is this not covered under the new GDPR?

Talk Talk
Same as above. Ongoing complaint that we aren't prepared to close, as they haven't provided adequate response or explanation as to why their service is so appalling. Landline rang once, then rang off, followed by mobile ringing once and then ringing off. On the occasions that we have been able to speak to someone, they appear to have a log of phone calls that they have made to us, that we have never received. Shocking customer service when dealing with problems.

Scam don’t not give out security information
It’s a scam! Call capital one with number on the back of your card and give them the telephone number that called you so they can take legal action.

A Note to Party Guy
You have clearly not read ALL the comments on this subject. Time for you to scroll down and find the comments about this being known as SLAMMING a tactic that Ofcom are well aware of. On the balance of probability, I feel that the messages from BT are genuine but brought about by this slamming technique whereby another telephone provider tells BT that one of their customer wishes to switch to this new telephone provider. Thus BT get in touch with their customer by message or letter to confirm if this is the case. Now, whether the phone no. given is genuine or not remains to be confirmed. I recall receiving a similar letter some years ago when I had decided to switch to TalkTalk (a decision I bitterly regretted, as its customer service was useless and it felt that it could just change what services we had agreed to when I signed up with them and without advance notification). Now with someone else.

FRAUD
Call from this number said I had had a withdrawal from my account. I called Santander on another phone with their genuine number and they said it is fraud. Whilst on to the genuine number, this number called me twice which I didn't answer. They tried a third time pretending to be Santander Fraud Department and I hung up. BEWARE!

HSBC Number 0800 169 9903 is correct
I received an email from HSBCnet which asked me to call the fraud dept. on 0 800 169 9903. I have verified that this number IS the correct number to call them back on - I was sceptical re. the email and more so having read the previous comments on here.

They're Playing the Numbers Game
This Safe Secure 'company' are playing the numbers game. They are assuming that a) the person they are calling has domestic appliance insurance and b) they clutch out of the air, when challenged a monthly figure for the premium. The truth is that a) they have no idea who you may be insured with (and remember they are making that assumption that you do have insurance) hence the third party remark, b) they do not know how much you are paying (if they did know this then, logically, they would also know with which company you are insured) c) had indeed it been the case that 'they have taken over the insurance', then surely the previous insurance company would have written to all of its customers saying that Safe Secure are taking over the policy. The only thing this bunch got correct was conforming to PECR by stating the name of the company along with a phone no. where they may be contacted free of charge. I get the impression that they are fishing (not phishing) for business.

Unbelievable Jeff, may I offer both you and any in our grand community the following advice when someone asks "What do you want our phone number for?"? Your reply is "Because you have to give your phone number under The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. Failure to provide that information, when requested, could lead to a criminal prosecution under the terms of those regulations. Thus I request that you provide me with your company name and address or a phone no. where you may be contacted free of charge, otherwise I would respectfully point out to you that a failure to comply with this request may be considered a breach of PECR and your company could be in a whole lot of trouble!" See how they take that. It's time that they were bullied instead of us!
