5 rings only. If they gave you long enough to pick the phone up, you might find out who they are. Just yet another 0843 number so just the same bunch of timewasters.

Had 9 calls a couple of days ago...all silent. Then today had a call which when I was about to hang up someone answered. They said that they know we had been having a lot of silent calls and would be able to help us stop them. It would cost £1.80 per month. I declined and said I would have to check with my partner, and they gave me the telephone number so that I could ring back. Having checked it out, I realised that it is the same number being quoted here. After an hour or so, the phone rang again and was silent, but I hung on, until a voice said `Goodbye'! Obviously because I didn't ring back!! What stopped me from being suspicious to start with, was the fact that the phone number was 0845, which is the starting code of several bone fide companies etc.

Delayed or cancelled flight
'Hello, This is an important message regarding your delayed flight. If you were delayed for over 3 hours or was cancelled in the last 8 years, you could be entiltled to up to £550. If you would like more information on how this works, please press 5 and one of our friendly claims managers will call you back. If this doesnt apply to you and you would like to remove your details, please press 9' Pressed 5 and got a message stating that no one is available to take your call, but please leave a message so someone can call you back.... hmm... don't think so! Doubt pressing 9 will remove your details. This is more likely used to confirm a live number and is added to a marketing/scam call list.

not a scam
My mother has had one previously to the one she received today. I phoned them up straight away on the 0844 number on the welcome pack and they arrange the product to be returned and refunded at no expense to me. My mother did foolishly buy a second blocker but they have agreed to return the money taken. I do not think they are a scam, they also played recorded calls of my mother purchasing it and she did agree to all the services over the phone. I am looking forward to hearing from them when they receive the call blocker.

actually spoke to a person (Tom)
Unsolicited PPI call based on no info as have not had a loan or credit card with PPI. we are both ex bankers so would not even consider the product so where they got my number is a puzzle. Pressed option 5 and spoke to a person (Tom) and told him i did not want any further calls and he said he would take me off their list. Be interesting to see if it achieves anything so as I further precaution have registered with TPS

Just found a similar transaction on my credit card statement. Thank you for the information in the previous post. I phoned my credit card company and they put me through to the telephone number and took the cost. I got really arsey with the lady who answered. She said that I must have bought something from someone over the phone, and they had passed on my details and they had written to me (they had not) and given me 30 days to cancel something that I had not ordered in the first place. I told her I wanted my money back, she got very defensive and could not get off the phone quick enough, especially when I said it was no way to treat a pensioner. She said it would be refunded to me in 3-5 days, and so I said if it wasn't, I would be going to the Police as it was nothing but a scam. I will report back if I get a refund - but I am not holding my breath!!!! My credit card company said they would refund it if I did not get it back from the company, which is very good of them.

Barclaycard
'Anon' (post of 20-Jun-2014) is wrong - it is in fact Barclaycard checking for fraud. (I cancelled my old card during this call and had them send me a new one, which in fact did happen.)

Quite simply harassment
Genuine Nationwide number. Harassed by automated calls from this No. ringing persistently. My husband being an ambulance man works shifts, has lost sleep and I have been extremely inconvenienced due to working from home. Local Nationwide branch denied calls were Nationwide. Spoke to investigations dept who agreed to finally stop ringing us. Cannot believe a reputable company such as Nationwide can act cause such distress to its loyal customers. We have considerable life savings with Nationwide and we will be closing our accounts. My advice is if you are being harassed in the same way contact Nationwide's collections department on 08004643040.

"UK Debt Helpline"
Similar to the call copied below. The caller said she was in Port Talbot. I asked if 'UK Debt Helpline' was a subsidiary of Quindell? The caller asked me to repeat the question, so I did, then she hung up. 08434104320 "Unsecured debts of £5,000 or more can apply to have 70% legally written off. That’s right, if you are £5,000 or more in debt, and would like to know how you can legally write off 70%, then just press 5 on your phone and one of our operators will post you out a pack today. So press 5 on your phone now and we will send you out a pack today. Alternatively just press nine (9) to opt out." -
